Reasons to Customize an E-Shop

INTEGRATION SERVICES FOR WEBSITE MARKETING

E-Commerce packages, web-site solutions for e-shops, features, modules, plugins and many other enhancements perhaps you can purchase online with the latest updates, synchronizing your e-shop perhaps from a remote server. Yet a key element to all packages where no programmer or company may forecast are the specifics your store targets. E-Commerce sites are much more demanding than personal web-sites. As a minimum, they require a database like MySQL, a programming language like PHP a server like Apache, an SSL perhaps, before even getting into eshop's specfics.

When you purchase an e-commerce package you will receive all the necessary files and tools to setup the catalog in order to sell on-line. Once you have your web-package up and running you will start thinking how your customers will pay and receive the goods, how they can shop online securely, all the products, you as a merchant sells online. SSL, Shipping Carriers, Payment Gateways all of a sudden become important. Coupons, Gift Certificates, Vouchers, Discount modules seem attractive concepts in order to compete with other merchants who sell the same type of products. You realize marketing and SEO strategies are cruicial to your business online. Looking back at the wonderful web-package you originally purchased, you realize that it does not cover much of your requirements. And you just started scratching the surface.

Reasons are straight forward, your the e-commerce package cannot handle all this. It was not designed in the first place for your particular e-shop. It was a generic application that operates as a product listing mainly. It was not even tested against the latest browser versions or with all combinations of browser configuration settings. It has no specific functionality for the necessities for the products you carry, how you going to ship them, how you are going to get paid, what invoices to send to your customers, or what marketing avenues need to be followed. As a merchant you know your business and you have in mind exactly how the e-shop should operate. There are options available to add the necessary functionality into your web-store though each one with advantages and disadvantages.

Hiring a professional.

Finding a professional who can work with your e-commerce store, perhaps it is the most advantageous solution as long as you can find the right person. If you need code changes you hire a programmer, if you need layout changes you hire a designer and a programmer, if you need marketing modifications to your store, you may need a photographer, a designer, a programmer and a marketer. The list goes on perhaps it reaches a whole team of professionals and perhaps you wonder why the designer cannot do the whole work. Well the designer/artist may create a new logo or banner say, but he doesn't know how to integrate them with your specific web-package you purchased. There are a bunch of different known web languages.  And if that web-package for your e-shop was closed source, in other words, nobody other than the company who sold it to you knows about it, then you are in trouble. But let's assume it is open source so at least you stand a chance to get your e-commerce store right. Hiring a professional to the work can be the most effective solution. As long as there is trust between the merchant and the web professional, a long-term business relationship is feasible. What you should look for, is a professional who can execute what you have in your mind for your business. He can make your thoughts reality and integrate them with your e-shop.

Renting e-commerce space via one of the corporate multi-stores.

Typically a merchant can rent a ready store where he pays a monthly fee and another company takes up all responsibility to sell and promote products along with exposing the web-content over the internet to the search engines, affiliates and using various marketing means. In such cases monthly fees can be extremely high for startup e-shops. Moreover search engines dominate exposure of commercial products albeit the popularity and resources of such corporations are enormous. Finally e-commerce stores that follow this paradigm can be carbon copies and an independent merchant has plenty of space to compete and score sales as he can deploy web components to satisfy the majority of his clientele. Online competition and technology milestones is the major disadvantage for merchants who pursue renting space in a multi-store type of service.

Learning the internals of a web-package.

Another option perhaps unrealistic to the majority of merchants, is to get involved to a certain degree with web-design, web-programming, e-commerce technologies and online marketing. Each area is covered by multiple disciplines that require time and resources to invest, in order to get the knowledge and skills up to a professional level. Theoretically, these skills and knowledge can then assist the store owner to modify his store according to his needs. Practically is better investing your time where you have the real expertise. Basic knowledge however is a necessity and can be acquired with experience when competing online, receiving feedback from customers, thinking about how to improve the navigation, usability and features of a web store. Too much involvement to these areas it may consume the resources, those that you were planning to invest into your business. A balance is required where the merchant can understand the principles according to his clients requirements and online e-shop demands.

The choice is yours before taking a decision keep in mind at the end of the day is who creates an income from his online business. Being results oriented, is vital to your success. We as a company can cover many of the commerce areas mentioned above and point you to the right direction for your business.
